When is the Bexley 11+, and when do we register?

Children sit the Bexley Selection Test in September at the start of Year 6, and parents register in Year 5. This year registration ran through March, the test was in early September, results were emailed from 2 October 2026. Secondary school applications for September 2027 entry must be in by 31 October 2026. The dates for next year's sitting are not yet published, so we will not guess them.

Which children is this for?

Children in Years 4 and 5. Year 5 children are the next to sit, in September of Year 6. Year 4 children sit a year later, which gives them longer to build confidence. Children already in Year 6 have sat this year's test, and registration for it has closed.

What is in the Bexley test?

Two papers on the same day, with a break between them. Paper one covers Verbal Ability and English comprehension, and paper two covers Numerical Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning. Questions are multiple choice and timed. Verbal counts for half the score, with numerical and non-verbal a quarter each. The numerical content does not go beyond the end of Year 5.

If my child is selective, do they get a place?

Not automatically. Being deemed selective makes a child eligible, and in 2025 about a third of the children who sat were. After that, places follow each school's own admissions criteria, and the council gives the highest-scoring children the strongest priority for their preferred grammar. No pass mark is published, so we focus on helping your child do their best.

Does a Kent Test result count in Bexley?

Bexley Council does not consider a Kent Test result, or any other selection test, in place of the Bexley test. Each school also publishes its own admissions policy, so check the ones you are applying to.

We teach all four areas the test covers: verbal ability, English, numerical reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Your child joins a small-group live class with an 11+ specialist each week, and has daily practice that adapts to what they find hard. The admission call is where we plan it around your child.

Q: Can one test cover all four Bexley grammar schools?

Yes. You register once with Bexley Council, and the one result is used for Townley, Bexley Grammar, Chislehurst and Sidcup, and Beths. You then list your preferred schools on your secondary school application.
