What is a class like?
Your child works through Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning from our own workbooks, in a small group with a teacher in the room who helps when they get stuck. Each class is 90 minutes.
Which years and subjects do you teach?
Year 4 and Year 5, for the 11+: Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. If your child is in another year, choose “Other” on the form and we will be straight with you about whether we can help.
What are the costs, days and times?
There is nothing to pay for the trial class. If your child carries on, classes are £25 an hour on a monthly contract, paid in advance. Booking the trial does not set up a Direct Debit. Year 4 is on Wednesdays from 5.30 to 7pm, Year 5 on Wednesdays from 7 to 8.30pm.

How does the trial class work?
Pick your child’s year group and a Wednesday on the form. We message you on WhatsApp to confirm the place. Your child joins the normal class with the group they would be in, and afterwards you decide whether to carry on.
Does my child need to be good already?
No. Children work in a small group with a teacher in the room, so a child who finds it tricky gets help when they are stuck, and a child who finds it easy is stretched.
Do Newstead Wood and St Olave’s use the same test?
No. Newstead Wood sets its own test using GL Assessment and publishes a cut-off score. St Olave’s runs a separate two-stage assessment of its own. They are different papers on different dates, so if you are applying to both, plan for both.
Classes have already started. Can my child still join?
Yes. Classes are running now. Your child joins for the trial class on the Wednesday you pick, and can carry on from the following week if you want them to.
What if the Wednesday I picked stops working for us?
Reply to our WhatsApp or call 07575 075710 and we will move it to another Wednesday.
